นับว่าเป็นคนสายตาดีคนหนึ่ง
แม้แต่สิ่งที่อยู่ไกลลิบตา
ภาพที่ปรากฎก็ไม่เคยรบกวนการมองเห็น
หรือรบกวนจิตใจเลย
เคยลองมองจมูกตัวเอง
สายตาเราจะถูกปรับให้แคบลง
แม้ภาพที่เลือนลางของจมูกจะปรากฎขึ้น
แต่เบื้องล่างกลับมีภาพที่ชัดเจนทดแทนทุกครั้ง
หรือแม้แต่เวลาเราปรับสายตา
มองกวาดออกไปเป็น 180 องศา
ภาพพร่าเลือนของจมูกกลับไม่เคยทำให้
้ภาพเบื้องหน้ามีความชัดเจนน้อยลง
ซ้ำร้ายบางครั้งเราแทบจะไม่ได้สังเกต
ภาพจมูกของตัวเองด้วยซ้ำ
เวลาเจอเรื่องเศร้า ๆ
เรามักจะนึกถึงคำพูดคำร้องคำถามของ ลอยด์ โคล ที่ว่า
"พร้อมรึยังที่จะหัวใจสลาย"
แต่ดูเหมือนจะไม่มีอะไรพรากรอยยิ้มและเสียงหัวเราะจากเราไปได้
บางครั้งได้ยินคำปลอบใจจาก โรซี โทมัส
"รอยยิ้มเปื้อนความวิตกกังวล"
ก็ใจชื้น คิดว่ารอยยิ้มและเสียงหัวเราะ
ก็น่าจะมีอารมณ์ความรู้สึกของตัวมันเองเช่นกัน
เวลามีเรื่องทุกข์ใจก็มักจะพูดกับตัวเองบ่อย ๆ ว่า
เกลียดจัง ที่มนุษย์เราปรับตัวเก่ง
ไม่ใช่แค่ เราสามารถยิ้มหรือหัวเราะเวลามีเรื่องทุกข์ใจได้
แต่ยังทำให้ตัวเองและคนอื่นเชื่ออย่างผิด ๆ ได้ว่า
เราก็แค่ยิ้มและหัวเราะไปพร้อม ๆ กับความเศร้าในใจ
วันนี้กลับกลายเป็นความเศร้าส่งยิ้มมาให้แต่
"ลอยด์ ผมขอโทษจริง ๆ แม้แต่กับความเศร้า
ผมก็ยังคงปฏิบัติกับมันด้วยความเสแสร้ง"
